7. Choosing an immigration adviser
Section 84 (1) of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 prohibits the provision of immigration advice or services other than by a ‘qualified person’. As qualified solicitors we are authorised to provide immigration advice and services under the Act and we are also regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (‘SRA’). When choosing an immigration expert for advice it is extremely important that you take time to ensure that the provider is both authorised to provide advice to you and, if you are specifically seeking assistance from a solicitor, is authorised to practice by the SRA. Qualified solicitors are required to abide by a strict code of practice including a specific requirement to act in the best interests of the client.
